Edit Bar

The Edit Bar becomes visible when you create a new Sudoku with the command New - Empty in the Game menu or when you use the Edit Visible Fields command in the View menu to switch to the Edit mode. You can use the OK button to commit your changes and play the new or modified Sudoku. The button will only be activated if a solution is possible. The Cancel button will dismiss any changes and restore the game that was active before you started editing.

While editing Sudokus, the application will search for a solution after every change. For Sudoku puzzles up to a size of 9x9, a deep solving algorithm is used that will find a solution even if it needs to try different possible values for some of the cells. As this may become quite slow for larger Sudokus, these are checked with a faster algorithm that may fail to find an existing solution. Therefore you will find an additional checkbox in the Edit Bar that allows to activate the Deep Solver when editing large Sudokus.

Note: The deep solver can be very slow, in particular for incomplete Sudoku puzzles. Hence you should only activate it if you have added sufficient values to assume the existence of a solution.

The small LED picture and the text box inform you about the solvability of the edited Sudoku:

Solution found: The currently visible numbers uniquely allow to solve the Sudoku. Hence the OK button is activated and you can commit your changes. An added + implies that always at least one cell with a unique solution exists while playing.

Solution not unique: The Sudoku has multiple solutions. You need to add or change visible numbers to get a unique solution. The OK button is deactivated.

Solution too complex: The search for a solution was canceled, because there were too many cells without a unique solution. Most likely this Sudoku does not have a solution. The OK button is deactivated.

Solution not possible: With the currently visible numbers it is impossible to solve the Sudoku. You need to remove or change visible numbers to get a solvable Sudoku. The OK button is deactivated.
